"Dwight is a tireless and very hard worker. A great supporter of education." "He's done an all-around great job for this district," said Harry Heyman, who for 22 years was chairman of the Sandusky County Democratic Party. "He was one of the best representatives we've ever had in this district because he always knew what had to be done. "He was responsive to the people who called him for help and he knew who to contact in Columbus to get the answers people needed," Heyman said. Many of those who called on Wise for help acknowledged his efforts in heartwarming letters to their representative.

"Thank you for treating me like a human being," wrote a Fostoria man who called on Wise for help in collecting a disability claim. "I write to you with watery eyes.

There's a world of meaning in the thanks I bring to you," he wrote. As Wise prepares to spend more time with his family and friends in his rural Fremont home instead of the statehouse, he does so with a hint of reservation about the changes a host of new faces in Columbus will bring. Wise is only one of several political veterans to be turned away by voters this past election. And he is concerned the Republican sweep of elected offices in Ohio will upset an important balance among state leaders. "We had a Democratic House and a Republican Senate," Wise notes.

"Of course, we had a Democratic governor before our current Republican Gov. Voinovich. It was a good balance, an important balance," he said. "Major changes are fine, I 'guess, but I'm concerned that the balance will no longer be there," he said. "I hope the working person still gets a fair shake, that's what we always tried to do." Police go high tech to stop fraud Associated Press CINCINNATI As technology presents opportunities for more sophisticated crimes, the Cincinnati police department is going high-tech to battle computer, cellular phone and other such crimes.

Special technical and investigative skills are needed to detect and solve many computer crimes. Many businesses "don't have any place to go to get this problem solved and they write it off," Hamilton County Sheriff Simon Leis Jr. said. Leis and police Chief Michael Snowden last week announced the creation of a regional task force of specialists in computer and electronic crime to combat the problem. The task force will be led by Dale Menkhaus, who will retire Jan.

Other police agencies in Ohio and northern Kentucky will lend investigators for specific cases. The task force also will rely on area businesses for technical help, equipment and other resources.

Leis became interested in setting up a task force after two of, his officers attended a workshop. Other agencies were interested and the business community supported the idea, he said. Many businesses were hesitant to discuss problems for fear of undermining customer confidence. Another concern is the relatively new legal ground of pornography sent across phone lines from computer bulletin boards or other sources to home computers. "Parents see their kids are getting into bulletin board things and they're just Menkhaus said.
