Vaffis, 16, 716 Birchard avenue, told police she was traveling south and stopped for the stop sign at the State street intersection. She said a car pulled beside her so she couldn't let a truck make a right turn. The truck, she said, obstructed her vision so that she couldn't see the car driven by Deborah L. Cooper, 18, 321 Fairhome avenue, Clyde, as she made her turn. She said she was almost through the turn when the other car struck her.

Miss Cooper said she was traveling slowly west on State street when the Vaffis car pulled in front of her. The woman said she would see her own physician about a minor injury. Former Two cars were towed from the scene of an accident at the intersection of east State and north Fifth streets Friday afternoon. No one was injured in the accident, but both cars suffered Sheriffs Cruiser Damaged A deputy sheriff following a suspicious car, failed to negotiate a curve on CR 90, slid off the road and struck a fence post. The cruiser had to be towed from the scene, but Deputy Paul A.

Overmyer apparently was uninjured. Overmyer said he was traveling South on CR 90 when he spotted a car stopped at the side of the road about a half-mile ahead. As he approached, he said the other car took off past him, and he spotted beer cans strewn about the area the car just had left. Overmyer turned around to follow the car, but failed to make a curve about three miles south of Hessville and heavily damaged the right front fender of the cruiser. EMMA HOLCOMB, Helena, is completing her recovery at home, following surgery in Toledo Mercy hospital. Frederick A. Cleveland, 19, 627ft Park avenue, was cited for failing to stop within an assured clear distance after he allegedly struck the rear of a car driven by Ernest G.

Stroud, 38, 1413 Buckeye street, at the intersection of south Front and Croghan streets Friday. Riding with Stroud were his wife, Gail L. Stroud, 36, Jacqueline, 7, Milo 12, Ernest 13, and Walter A. Stroud, 10. Mrs.

Stroud and Ernest Stroud both complained of pain following the accident, but apparently did not require hospital attention. Riding with Cleveland was Sherry Barton, 17, 132 north Collinwood. Neither she nor Cleveland were injured. Stroud said he stopped for the traffic light at the intersection and Cleveland struck him from the rear. Cleveland said he tried to stop, but couldn't and slid into the Stroud car.

Six persons were uninjured following a minor two-car accident at the Buckland and Hayes avenue intersection Friday afternoon. Both Linda L. Beard, 30, 3223 west Hayes avenue, driver of one car, and Harry O. Smith, 66, 754 CR 32, Helena, gave different reports to police. Smith eventually was cited for improper backing.

Mrs. Beard told police she stopped behind Smith's car at the intersection and he backed into her and then left the scene. Smith told police the woman struck his car from the rear. There were two passengers in each vehicle. In the Beard car were Steve, 13, and Alan Beard, 14.

Riding with Smith were Elizabeth S. Smith, 43, and Mark N. Smith, 6. Thomas A. Trimner, 96 Liberty avenue, Clyde, told police that sometime Friday, an unknown vehicle struck the right door of his car, which was parked in the area of the west side Burger Chef, causing considerable damage.

Bruce M. Mock, 2707 CR 66, Gibsonburg, told police that someone broke the rear window of his car, which was parked in front of 803 Birchard avenue, with a pop bottle yesterday afternoon. Doris M. Fisher, 712 Milton street, reported that someone stole the battery out of a car belonging to Max Getz, Kenton, which was parked in front of her address Friday afternoon. Damschroder Mrs. Clara Loertscher TOLEDO Mrs. Clara (Wick-miller) Loertscher, 92, wife of Jake Loertscher, 612 Chatham Court, died Friday in her home after an illness of one year. Mrs. Loertscher was born July 8, 1878 in Cleveland.

She was married to Mr. Loertscher of Elmore November 20, 1907. Surviving are her husband, a sister, Mrs. Esther Wertz, Cleveland, nieces and nephews. Mrs.

Loertscher was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist church. Friends may call at the Myers funeral home, Elmore. The body will be taken to St. Paul's Trinity United Methodist church, Elmore, to lie in state Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until funeral services at 3 p.m.

The Rev. J. Howard Dunn will officiate with burial in Union cemetery, Elmore. Archie Halfhill Archie Halfhill, 75, 369 east County Road 201, retired farmer, died Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at his home after two years of failing health.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Veh and Son funeral home, Gibsonburg, with burial in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria. Obituary information will be published Monday. Myers Services Held NORWALK Funeral Mass was held Saturday morning for Miss Florence M. Myers, 75, St.

Mary's street, bookkeeper at the Monroeville Cooperative Elevator for many years. The Mass was in St. Paul's Catholic church with burial in the parish cemetery. Miss Myers, sister of Mrs. Thornton (Mildred) Rastall, Bellevue, died Thursday at Fisher-Titus Memorial hospital.

Recently she had been an officer of the church, having retired from the elevator several years ago. Her only other survivors are nephews and a niece. OAK HARBOR Mrs. Ruth Damschroder, 69, wife of Lester F. Damschroder, 219 north Locust street, died Saturday in Sandusky Memorial hospital.

She had been in the intensive care unit since Christmas and had been in failing health the last year. She had been employed at the J. Weller Co. 19 years. Mrs.

Damschroder was born October 18, 1901 in Elmore, daughter of William and Laura Schwartz Weng. She was married to Mr. Damschroder in August of 1923 in the Lutheran church at Hessville. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs.

Crawford (Leila) Peeler, Tiffin, and Mrs. Thomas (Donna) Wheeler, Taipei, Taiwan, who recently returned home after being called here during the holiday season; brothers, Dan Weng, Fremont; Harry Weng, Indian Rivers, and four grandchildren. Mrs. Damschroder was a member of St. John's Evangelical church.

Friends may call at the Robinson funeral home beginning Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Harold C. Rust will conduct funeral services Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the mortuary with burial in Union cemetery.

Sandusky Captain Found Guilty DETROIT (AP) A Coast guard civilian examiner has found a Great Lakes freighter captain from Ohio guilty of negligence for failing to stop his ship for two men who were drowning in the Detroit River last November. The maximum possible penalty for the defendant, Capt. Burris Wolters of Sandusky, Ohio, is revocation of his captain's license, which would end his sailing career. The decision by Thomas Mackin of Boston, a marine lawyer, followed a two-day hearing in Detroit. Rising Costs Force Rate Hike COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) President Robert M.

Wopat of the General Telephone Co. told the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio Friday that rising taxes, interest rates, wages and other costs have forced the company to seek a rate hike. After the company presented its case, the PUCO hearing was continued until March 1, when lawyers for the PUCO and opponents of the proposal will examine company spokesmen. The company, which serves 200 communities in 70 counties, seeks an average of 29 per cent hike for residential customers. It says about half of the $9.4 million sought would be eaten up by taxes.

Burglar's Wounding Draws Fire CINCINNATI (AP) The fatal wounding of a burglary suspect by a Cincinnati policeman has drawn fire from two community councils here. Eighteen-year-old William Scurry of Cincinnati was shot to death following an apparent burglary attempt at an industrial supply firm, the Keene Thursday night. Sgt. Russell Jackson, Cincinnati Homicide Squad chief, said that Scurry was shot once in the back of the head by Patrolman John Huber after the youth ignored repeated warnings to halt. Huber said he spotted the youth climbing out of a window after a burglar alarm sounded.

Four Indicted In Slayings CINCINNATI (AP) Four Cincinnati area residents have -been indicted by the Hamilton County grand jury in the slaying of three persons during separate incidents. First degree manslaughter and robbery indictments were returned Friday against William Oden, 21, and Michael Rodgers, 16, in the fatal beating of Foster Hess, 65, of Cincinnati during a 57-cent holdup last Nov. 27. David Foote, 31, was indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the shotgun slaying of his sister, Jean Foote, 27, last Dec. 25.

Delia Dunn, 24, was named on a true bill for first-degree murder in the shooting death of her husband, William, 49, on last Nov. 30. Detention Center Planned WARREN, Ohio (AP)-Plans for a $3.3 million juvenile rehabilitation detention center to serve Trumbull, Mahoning and Ashtabula counties were announced Friday by the District Five Law Enforcement Planning Agency. James Maderitz, who served in an administrative post with the former Mahoning Valley Vocational School at Vienna, was named director of the project. Part of his duties will be to try to get federal and state financial assistance for the center.

Priest's Reassignment Studied CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) The Cleveland Catholic Diocese says it is considering assignment of a suspended priest to a near West Side parish. The priest, the Rev. Robert T. Begin, was suspended two years ago for his part in an unauthorized midnight protest mass at St. John Cathedral.

Father Begin said Friday after the diocese announcement that he has agreed to the proposed assignment to St. Patrick Parish, which is staffed by priests of the Jesuit order. University Home Rule Stressed AKRON, Ohio AP) Akron University President Norman P. Auburn says each of Ohio's 12 state universities has its own problems and state legislators should "not be tempted to cast all of the 12 sister state universities in the same mold." Auburn's comments came Friday during testimony before a state legislative subcommittee on campus unrest. "Legislation which fails to recognize the kind of home rule that we need in administrative operations would be a disservice to Ohio's state universities," he said.

Second Trial Begins Monday WAPAKONETA, Ohio (AP)- Frederick Carroll, 31, of Lima, goes on trial for the second time Monday in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court, charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Waynesf ield High School basketball star David Shaw. Shaw died in a traffic accident on Jan. 10, 1969. Carroll was tried by a jury, fined $500 and given a six-month jail sentence in 1969, but the Third District Court of Appeals overturned the verdict in 1970 on the grounds that testimony given at the trial concerning a breathalyzer test given Carroll was inadmissable. The appeals court noted that the officer who gave the test did not testify.

He was hospitalized at the time of the trial. School Employes Ratify Pact TOLEDO, Ohio AP) A ratification vote was set today on a new contract for non-teaching employes of the Toledo school system. Tentative agreement in negotiations between the school board and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employes ended a rash of work stoppages by boiler operators, bus drivers and cafeteria workers. Hamilton Man Denies Slaying HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) James Findley denies any part in the brutal slaying of a Cincinnati girl, saying that his brother-in-law drove off with her the night before she was found dead. Findley, 29, of Cincinnati testified Friday in his first-degree murder trial in Butler County Common Pleas Court that he gave his car keys to Dennis Smith, also of the Queen City, to take Cheryl Segal, 16, home.

Her nude body was found last Oct. 18 in a wooded area near here. Brown Names Assistants COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)- Atty. Gen. William J.

Brown has named Donald B. Leach his acting chief counsel and John A. Ledingham his communications officer. Brown also announced Friday he would name a special prosecutor in one week to handle the cases of 25 persons indicted on charges stemming from disturbances at Kent State University last spring. McCulloch Sworn Into Congress BALTIMORE (AP) Rep.

William M. McCulloch, R-Ohio, undergoing medical treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital here, was sworn into the 92nd Congress Friday in a bedside ceremony. The oath of office was administered to the 69-year-old lawmaker by Rep. Jackson E. Betts, R-Ohio.

McCulloch, of Piqua, has been receiving treatment since he suffered a small blood clot in his skull in a fall at his home last year. Sheriff Sentenced A sentence of five years imprisonment, with a possible modification of sentence in three months, was given to former Ottawa County Sheriff Myron Hetrick Friday for having pleaded guilty to perjury charges last November. Hetrick, a sheriff's deputy 22 years and a sheriff from 1956-1958, admitted that he had lied before a federal grand jury investigation of the operations of the Round the Clock Grill, near Genoa, about money received from Clock sources. Lilian Belt, of Paradise Valley, Arizona and owner of The Clock, pleaded guilty to charges of income tax evasion and abiding and abetting illegal interstate transportation for prostitution. U.

S. District Judge Don Young was told by Mrs. Belt that she satisfied her income in 1963, and, on the prostitution charge, she said, "I ran a house of prostitution." The former sheriff, as sentenced by Judge Young, will be returned to the court within three months for possible modification of the sentence. The judge said that he wants additional tests performed on Hetrick to give him more information on a final disposition. Krotzer Files For Mayor Of Gibsonburg Robert R.

Krotzer, 208 south Patterson street, Gibsonburg, filed Friday in Sandusky County Board of Elections office for mayor of Gibsonburg on the Democratic ticket. His opponent will be present Mayor Ray Gam, who has already filed as a Republican. In Bellevue, where the first and second wards must file in Sandusky county, a newcomer filed Friday for councilman in the first ward on the Democratic ticket. Dennis W. Johnson, 222 Union street, Bellevue, chief draftsman for the Stephen Thomas Company, Bellevue, is the first to file for councilman on either ticket.

Air Committee Wins Backing CINCINNATI (AP) The Tri-State Air Committee, an area citizens group, has won sponsorship in its drive for tougher air pollution standards and enforcement in Ohio. The board of directors of the Hamilton County Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association agreed Thursday to sponsor the group which was organized in 1969. The committee is part of a statewide coalition which has become known as the "Breathers' Lobby." The committee will have a fulltime administrative officer Thomas Beehan who is currently a health educator assigned to air conservation on the staff of the Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Associa Ried maier Services Investigated Hospital Reports Two non-injury accidents were reported by the highway patrol. Roy Wolf, 31, Limerick road, Clyde, was traveling east on County road 20 when he attempted to overtake two vehicles ahead. The lead vehicle changed into the left lane as Wolf approached, forcing him off the road where he struck the median rail.

The accident occurred at 3:45 p.m. last Thursday on County road 20, .5 miles east of Fremont. It wasn't reported until Friday, however. There were no injuries, no citation given, and only moderate damage done to the car. At 9:30 p.m.

Friday evening Deborah Powell, 17, 202 south Park avenue, was traveling east on County road 20 when she slowed to make a left hand turn. Donald Trehan, 42, north Church street, Clyde, was traveling east on 20 and failed to see the Powell car in time and swerved and struck the car in the left rear. The accident occurred in front of Rainbow Lanes on 20. There were no injuries, but Trehan was cited for driving while under the THE SENIOR HIGH YOUTH Fellowship of St. Paul's Episcopal Church will meet at 6 p.m.

Principal Duane Wamsley of Ross high school will present a program on TRIE. Truman Suffers From Colitis KANSAS CITY (AP) Harry S. Truman's physician said today he has diagnosed the 86-year-old former president's ailment as colitis. The announcement was made at Research Hospital. The ailment is described as an inflammation of the large intestine.

Truman's condition was listed as good and the physician, according to the hospital spokesman, John Dreves, said Truman had spent a quiet night. Wallace Graham has diagnosed his ailment as colitis, or inflammation of the large intestine.

Police Investigate Forged Check Report Police are investigating a report of a forged check being cashed at the Sohio Station at 328 east State street on December 22. The check for $40, was drawn on the account of Robert J. Rudd, Madison, Wisconsin, and was made payable to Tim Jackson. The check was among several reported stolen December 22 by Rudd. PORT CLINTON Funeral services for Linn Eric Ried-maier, 6 months, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Herman Riedmaifcr, 330 Garfield road, were Saturday in the Niedecker-LeVeck funeral home. The Rev. William Luoma of Peace Lutheran church officiated with burial in Riverview cemetery. The child was born July 17, 1970 in Port Clinton, son of Herman and Shirley Von Glahn Ried-maier.

Surviving with the parents are brothers, Larry, Michael, Chris and Jeff, and a sister, Beth, all at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Von Glahn and Mrs. Clara Riedmaier, all of Port Clinton, and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Brell, also of Port Clinton.

Services Conducted Funeral services for Frank T. Shoemaker, 88, former public school custodian, were Friday in the Karlovetz mortuary with the Rev. Alvin Siemsen officiating. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. Mr.

Shoemaker retired in 1956 from the schools. He died Tuesday in the Sandusky County Home, where he had been a patient two months. Pallbearers were Kenneth Smith, Robert G. Shockley, Ronald, Donald and James Shoemaker and Calvin Merritt. Services Held Today BOWLING GREEN Funeral services for Mrs.

Vandals Damage Car Parked Along Road Dave Velliquette, Route 1, Vickery, reported that he ran out of gas near the intersection of CR 268 and SR 6 Friday afternoon. He said he parked the car nearby but when he came back, he found the driver's side window broken, the distributor cap and carburetor broken and the battery gone. tion. Fremonters Cited By Tiffin Police Three Fremonters were arrested by Tiffin police early Friday, one on a delinquency charge and the others on contributing to the delinquency of a minor. George J.

Metcalfe, 18, and Joseph Yeager, 19, were confined in Tiffin city jail on the contributing charge and a 17-year-old was released to his parents. Police officers reported they saw the three men in a car, which was being driven through red lights in the downtown area and the car was stopped. Officers said all three were in a state of Loses Wallet Elizabeth L. Cronin, 919 east State street, reported that she lost a wallet containing credit cards and $80 in cash in the vicinity of the Curlette Beauty Shop yesterday afternoon. She said she Went back to look for it, but it was not there.
