He served with the military during World War II in Okinawa and Korea. He moved to Gibsonburg in 1947. He married Leora Minich on Sept. 28, 1947, and she died Nov. 15, 1998.

Mr. Welling owned Welling Plumbing and Heating, retiring in 1983. Prior to owning his own busi- ness, he worked for several area plumbing companies, including Cunningham Plumbing. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg and had served as a church councilman. He was also a member of the Sandusky County Sportsman's Club.

Surviving are daughter Elaine Monahan of Belmont, sons Warren and Keith of Woodville; four grandchildren and a greatgrandchild; and brother Dudley of Stony Ridge. A grandchild is deceased. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Veh Funeral Home, Gibsonburg.

Dismissed. Earl Richard Smyser May 12. 191 6 -May 18, 2000 Earl Richard Smyser, 84, of Green Springs, died Thursday at Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bettsville to George W. and Carrie (May) Smyser.

He married Cora M. Shi-ley on Oct. 3, 1959, in Green Springs, and she is deceased. He was a graduate of Junior Order United American Mechanics in Tiffin class of 1934. Mr.

Smyser retired from Basic Inc. in Maple Grove and was a member of the Basic Quarter Century Club. He served with the military during World War II in the Middle East and was a member of Green Springs VFW 6067 and Green Springs American Legion 295. Surviving are sons Stanley and Sanford SeTvey of Green Springs; daughter Barbara Burns of Tiffin; 35 grandchildren and many great-and great-great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth Smyser of Tiffin; and sisters Rena Marie Durst of Clyde and Lois Delene Kinsworthy of Monroe, Ohio. Sons Manley, Robert, Harold and Richard Selvey, brother George W.

She is formerly of Fostoria. She was born in Oakboro, N.C., to Joel and Cora (Hatley Hartsell and graduated from high school there in 1937. She married Gerald W. Fling on Feb. 19, 1944, in San BernadTno, and he died Aug.

13, 1991. Mrs. Fling worked at Kaminsky Jewelers in Fostoria for 10 years. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Fostoria. Surviving are daughters Brenda K.

Fling and Rhea K. Martin of Fremont; sister Vassie Cranford of North Carolina; and three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Brothers Grover and Cletus Hartsell and sisters Arlene Hart-sell and Faye Smith are deceased. Visitation: None. Services: Private.

"Slick" Black, 73, of Manhattan Street, Clyde, died Thursday at Memorial Hospital. He was born in Tiffin to Clarence and Daisy (Bloom) Black and graduated from Green Springs High School in 1944. He married Margie J. Kock on June 23, 1949, and she survives. Mr.

Black worked as a lubrication technician at Whirlpool retiring in 1991 after 42 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Terra Community College and attended the University of Wisconsin. He was a member of the Clyde Eagles 2291 and Independent Order of Foresters.

Mr. Black was an avid Cleveland Browns football, Cleveland Indians baseball and Ohio State University Buckeyes fan. He also enjoyed horse racing. Also surviving are sons Scott of Clyde and Paul R. of Green Springs; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Martin Black of Tiffin; and sister Maxine Herbert of Tiffin.

Brothers Doyle and Cloyce Black and sisters Betty Fey and Velva Dye are deceased. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Eagles services are 7 p.m. Services: 10:30 a.m.

Sr. and Elaine R. (Wahl) Dunfee and graduated from Ross High School in 1975. Mr. Dunfee worked at factories in the area.

She was born in Wellington, 111., to Brent and Elizabeth (Hubbard) Perkins. She married James Piper on March 11, 1966, in Winterhaven, and he is deceased. Mrs. Piper was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles. Surviving are son Steve of Fremont, daughter Denise Welty of California, a granddaughter and two stepgrandchildren.

Maynard Brinker July 31, 1922 May 8, 2000 Former Gibsonburg resident Maynard Duane Brinker, 77, of Muskegon, died there May 8. He was born in Gibsonburg to Ester and Warren Brinker. He married Emma Louise Phillips on May 5, 1945, and she is deceased. Mr. Brinker served with the U.S.

Navy during World War II and retired from the Leigh High Valley Railroad after 32 years. He is survived by children Kevin of Waterford, Timothy of Glen Ellyn, 111., and Pamela Douglas of Muskegon and eight grandchildren. Visitationservices: Private. Keith, 85, of Cuyahoga Falls, died Thursday at Pebble Creek Convalescent Center in Akron. She is survived locally by daughter Grace Rohrbacher of Clyde. She was born in Medina to Samuel and Velma Grace (Nauzel) Eshelman. On Nov. 11, 1936, she married C.

Max Keith, and he died in 1990. A former 50-year resident of Polk, Mrs. Keith was a cook at Samaritan Hospital and was a member of the Polk United Methodist Church, the Women's Club and the Jackson Township Grange, She served on the Ashland County Election Board Also surviving are daughters Janet Vincent of Jacksonville, Vera Jean Patnode of Colorado Springs, Cleo Grun-den of Vickery and Ruth Mundy of Cuyahoga Falls; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and sisters Olive Bassett of Lake Worth, and Gladys Rowe of Homerville. Sons William and Samuel are deceased. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m.
